  2. He did :-)
Its interesting that RH are blamed for cancelling TheDFC. The one thing that pops out for me is how selfish people (unknowingly) are. The simple fact is that if the existing readers had shared their love for the DFC with others the subs would have multiplied enormously. No blame there, just an observation. Sharing and recommendation is the key to success these days. Anything else may shift a few issues but wont make all that much difference. Thats what made 'Slumdog' and 'Mamma Mia' such successes, given that neither were particularly great films. They 'touched' people, and that was passed on from one to another.

  3. Oh no, I'd unsubscribe if I thought my subscription came with having to do DFC door knocking, like the Jehovah's Witnesses! ;-D

'Excuse me, sir, do you believe in Original Sin? And do you think Robot Girl will manage to destroy the entire cosmos? And does a talking sausage have something to say to us all?'

  5. @Andrew, I am definitely getting sick to the back teeth with people throwing derogatory comments at Random House.

  6. Same here. I am no fan of huge corporations, heaven knows :-) but all the same it's just too pat to blame RH for what happened.

  7. Its easy to blame RH, who else would people choose to blame. It actually isnt anyones fault just a simple case of numbers. The sales didnt justify their investment. I think we all acknowledge RH for having the courage to back DFC in the first place. The only thing that will make a difference is what happens now and and what can be learned from it.
I wonder whether this conversation should be moved to the other blog ;-)

  9. No way :) I think people need to just lay off blaming "the big guy." We oughta lead the way on this one. It's no-one's fault!

  10. (Uh, I mean "no way" to Andrew's comment, not to Neill's...!)

  11. I'd been comparing The DFC to Warrior.

  12. Warrior. Now don't start me off. I'll be getting all wistful.
Leaving aside that nothing and nobody could encourage me to ever voluntarily read The Daily Torygraph, I thought that was quite a nice article. The thought of a child actually crying because it was cancelled actually vaguely distresses me a bit, but yes, I agree. Unfair to blame Random House. If it wasn't for them supporting David Fickling in the first place, we wouldn't even have had the 43 issues that we did.
