The Phoenix
Today sees the launch of issue one of The Phoenix! It's a fantastic issue with amazing comic creators such as Daniel Hartwell, Neill Cameron, Ricardo Tangle, Jamie Smart, the Etherington Brothers, Patrice Aggs, Kate Brown, Ben Haggarty, Adam Murphy, James Turner and Chris Riddell - and there will be many more to come as The Phoenix appears weekly.
It is a worthy and natural successor to the much-loved DFC, and with that I think this blog kind of comes full circle and it seems a good time to close things down here as a bright new chapter in British comics begins.
There was some consultation and most contributors seemed to agree that the Super Comics Adventure Squad has slowed down quite a bit over the past few months and that with The Phoenix now risen from the ashes of The DFC, with its own website and new direction, it would be a good time to move on to pastures new - which may mean a new website/blog for UK kids' comics ... let's see!
In the meantime - huge thanks to all you readers, and also to everyone who contributed such fantastic comics news, content, drawings and links over the life of this blog. It's been brilliant :-)
Please keep up your support of the vibrant UK comics scene and keep visiting the creators' links over there to the right, and subscribe to The Phoenix, if you haven't already - it's British comics at their very best!

Brilliantly worded, Garen, and thank YOU for all the hours of work that I know has gone into creating and keeping this blog running. You sir, are a comics champion!
ReplyDeleteLorenzo!
Looks great! I'm still waiting for my copy, but if it's anything like as good as the DFC I'm sure I won't be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your hard work managing the site, Garen! And to the Etheringtons, for posting on it so often, you guys rock.
ReplyDeleteOnward and upward! :D
Cheers, Lorenzo. And I agree with Sarah - thanks for all your brilliant posts over the past year or so, keeping the blog lively :0)
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks too, Sarah - the blog probably wouldn't have happened without your support and enthusiasm at the beginning. I seem to recall I mentioned the idea just as we were walking past the Golden Hinde/Southwark Cathedral - but I can't remember where we were going to (or coming from...)!
I don't think you'll be disappointed, Tom... hope not!
ReplyDeleteAh my pleasure guys! I'm very proud to be a small part of this goup of sterling creators and writers! Oh, and Garen, BEAUTIFUL lines and colours on the Feather short in issue one! Man, so so lovely, an absolute standout story!
ReplyDeleteHere's a blog post about the Phoenix launch, with lots of photos. Missed you there, Garen!

Hope you all had a good time. All best wishes for continued success!
ReplyDeleteJust a quick note to echo everyone's comments and say a huge thanks to Garen for setting all this up and keeping it alive and kicking. I really think it was an invaluable part of keeping a bunch of us together in some sense during the DFC-Phoenix interregnum ("the Dark Times"), and I'm enormously grateful for that.
ReplyDeleteCheers dude!
