adam, i'm touched and honoured in return that you'd like it as a desktop background -- though it'll have to be a tad smooshed i fear -- but anyway, hi-res version on its way to you soon.
ben, i had to look up ambiguation... and i'm still not much the wiser...
andrew, i guess i was thinking along the lines of the *covered* blog, where artists redraw classic marvel covers and the like in their own styles. i just thought it'd be fun for this blog. (i also wondered if it might start a little dfc-creators-cross-over-fan-art memey-type thing...)
Dont get me wrong. I thinks a cool. :-) We mentioned the art crossover idea a while back so yes. Why not give it a go :-) Could produce some interesting results ;-)
That's one of the first things I thought when I saw your fabulous pic, Will. If anyone does one, do use the tag 'DFC fan art' - keeps the blog working :-)
um..more thanks! oh and garen i did think about going back to edit that post and put the label on, but i'm still sort of finding my way around on blogger and stuff...so thanks for doing that.
Will, I've been using 'ambiguate' as a verb for a long time but rather liking it to mean (Mr Dumpty style) what I want it to mean, which is the intentional creation of ambiguity in images or narrative sequences. Left Brain/Right Brain jumps; impossible possibiliites, possible impossibilities and so on... Knowing (and loving) the Bodkin vibe, it fair 'does me 'ead in' to see your hand on the grimmest of the grim moments in MeZolith... Stunning.
I don't know what the effect of this image would be on someone who was unaware of the various contexts and levels of back story behind its provenence. But I suspect someone encountering it for the first time would find they became increasingly fascinated and disturbed by it. They'd want to know what's happened, happening or about to happen next which is what we storytellers live for.
ah, now i get you, ben. thanks for the clarificabulationism. :)
and indeed for the further compliments...
i've been getting a lot of love for this drawing, and it's greatly appreciated, but don't forget all i did was basically copy adam's beautiful compositions in my own clumsy style..

ReplyDeleteGASP! Will this is so great. V touched and overwhelmed! It will be my desktop if you would be kind enough to send me a higher res version!
ReplyDeleteJeepers Creepers! That's unnerving.
ReplyDeleteAbsolute 100% ambiguation achieved.
Very, very excellent, Will.

I'd love to see you do a comic based on the Goon Show scripts, Will. I don't know why that popped into my head, it just did, but it'd be great.
ReplyDeleteheh! in this style?
