Spurred by Garen's post about the Kuniyoshi exhibition, I dug out some more brilliant Russ Nicholson pics from a Japanese-inspired book I did with him in the 1990s. I love how he can do so much with just a few lines. And that smoke!It was sad to see in an interview that Russ is not getting offered work these days. Presumably that's because publishers have identified him with the whole unfashionable brand of Dungeons-&-Dragons-style fantasy - unfairly, because he's had a huge body of work dating back to 1970s comics. In Japan he'd be a Living National Treasure! More here and here if you're a fan.
