The Spider Moon - the Play!

(Copied from my blog...)

Phew! The past few weeks have been very hectic! But, I'd like to announce the news that The Spider Moon is being developed for stage by Playbox Theatre. I've been holding on to this news since issue 2 of The DFC (!), and I've been really wanting to talk about it, hehe! :D This morning I was sent the flyers through, so I thought it would be a great time to talk about it on my blog. Here's the lovely flyers:

Obviously, one major hurdle for the adaptation was that the comic wasn't finished! But, I can tell you that if you're keen to know the rest of the story, please come along to a performance... since they're telling the whole story! This was seriously great for me on a personal level, as not being able to finish the story was a little frustrating, as is leaving any project unfinished. I think, for me, seeing the whole story on stage will give me a sense of closure :)

I don't want to say too much more, except that I've read the draft and it's awesome. I have been bowled over at every turn on this project, I am so happy and feel so, so lucky and proud to be able to witness this. Playbox Theatre are an absolutely lovely lot of people, and I really hope that anyone who wants to come and see this is able to! Just to let you know, the dates for the performances are:

Fri 25th September 7:30pm
Sat 26th September 4:00pm & 7:30pm
Thurs 1st October 7:30pm
Fri 2nd October 7:30pm
Sat 3rd October 4:00pm & 7:30pm

Please mark your diaries! :D

  1. Congratulations, Kate - great news! I wish it was showing in London.

How are they doing the underwater scenes, ie Bekka's dive early on? Theatre SFX are usually so much more imaginative than big bombastic CGI fx in movies - though don't turn down a movie deal if somebody offers one ;-)

  2. thank you! :D
I am not certain how the underwater scenes will be done yet, but I believe there is going to be circus work and wires(?) involved... whatever ends up being the method, I think it's going to work rather well!! :D

  4. OMG!! Thats awesome. What an inspiring crossover. Well done Kate :-)
When you think about it its so obvious to have comics developed as plays but happens all too infrequently.

  5. thanks dude! Yes, I saw the Tintin play last year and it was just so incredible, really fun and imaginative. I don't go to the theatre much, but when I have been it's been so inspirational. I really loved DV8's recent performance of "To be straight with you," they did awesome things with projection and framing. I think great theatre is one of the best things ever :)
