The Rainbow Orchid

Last week I was allowed to post online the cover of my book, The Rainbow Orchid, and today (fingers crossed) it has gone off to print. Here's the cover for those who haven't seen it...

And if you have not heard of my comic before, The Rainbow Orchid is a 1920s-set adventure drawn somewhat in the style of the Franco-Belgian ligne clair, made famous by Hergé and including other such excellent creators as Edgar P. Jacobs, Joost Swarte, Yves Chaland, Floc'h, Serge Clerc... and many more! The story finds some of its inspiration in the works of H. Rider Haggard, Arthur Conan Doyle and Jules Verne. If you like any of these things, or just love a deep story-driven adventure plot in which you can lose yourself - you might like The Rainbow Orchid too.

Volume one (of three) is published in August 2009 from Egmont UK. More info can be found on my blog.

  5. OMG, I can't believe it's only £4.89 on Amazon! That's all my Christmas prezzies sorted. And it's only April!

  6. Yeah - there go my royalties! It was £6.something yesterday. I heard from another author with her book that the more pre-orders Amazon get, the more they can cut the price - but I've no idea how that works, if true. Waterstones seem to have a good deal too, and, in fact, a slightly earlier release date.

  7. Oh, and you'll be able to buy it directly from me too :-)

  8. Hey, cool. Do you get any more money if I buy it through your site?

  9. I can buy a stock of my books from the publisher at a discount... and then charge what I want, I guess!

  10. So, should I cancel my Amazon pre-order and get it from you instead? Royalties are meagre enough as it is :-)

  11. I think you should get it as cheap as you can, wherever you can. In the longer term, and like Alan Partridge, "I want a second series", so numbers sold is good - I have a sneaking suspicion that RO won't make me rich anyway!

  12. Having written professionally for 25 years, I never begrudge paying an extra quid or two as long as it's going to the author and not the (many) middle men. It just seems to make sound and selfish sense: if you enjoy a book, you want to know that the person who created it can at least afford to write another!

  13. I got so excited looking at this that I nearly weed, just a tiny bit. I need to go anyway, but just sitting at the computer until... nope, better go.
Seriously, this has been a long time in coming and nobody deserves it better than Garen. Can't wait.
