Baggage Book Launches: Bristol and London
Hey folks! You're all invited to the Baggage book launches next month! Details on the flyers below, and get more info on our blog HERE!
Saturday, September 10, 2011
As part of the upcoming Bath Festival of Children's Literature (which we're appearing at on Sunday 2nd October with Baggage!) we were asked to write a chapter for a remarkable children's story that is being created live, day-to-day, by 20 fantastic authors. Each chapter will appear on a different blog, so you have to follow the links to read the entire magical story.
Seriously, the guys involved in this are huge, anyone heard of Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell?!!
GO HERE To read our chapter, then be sure to follow the links to the other chapters as they go live!

Mo-Bots: LAUNCHED!

Last Friday we had the Mo-Bot High launch party at Blackwells in Oxford, and an inordinate amount of fun it was too. There was drawing, comics-making, and Collaborative Cardboard Robots! And, obviously, lots of nibbles and wine. I've written a bit about it over on my blog. Thanks so much to everyone who came and made it such a marvellous evening. I guess that means, officially, Mo-Bots are GO!

DFC gang in the Valley of the Ninjas
The DFC gang rocked MCM Expo and its 46,400 costumed guests this weekend. Bob Etherington had to hold Vern the Sheep and a bedecked Mo-Bot at arms' length so they didn't rip each other to shreds before the battle even started. The fight was short but intense, showering the crowd with tufts of wool and smoking titanium alloy.

Lorenzo and Bob Etherington (...Lorenzo, what did Bob just do there?)

Catch glimpse of Little Cutie's Gary Northfield peeking out from his table:

Word also came in of further sightings of John Aggs (John Blake, Robot Girl, The Boss) and Tony Lee (The Prince of Baghdad). Here's Expo organiser Emma Vieceli, creator of Violet at the Sweatdrop Studios table:

And Sarah McIntyre cosplaying as Neill Cameron...

...because who wouldn't want to be mistaken for the guy who created a book this incredible?! Whoo hoo!

Read Neill Cameron's write-up here!
And the Etherington Brother's report here!
Don't miss Sarah McIntyre's 3 posts full of wacky costume photos!

Vern and Lettuce launch party!!
Did you know... there are THREE parties in Vern and Lettuce? Or even FIVE, if you count the award ceremony and welcome home bash. Vern and Lettuce love their parties. So we threw them one!

And it involved lots of little sheep, and knitters. Vern approved.

Do you have your copy yet? Sarah drew lots of pictures on that handy-dandy blank white page at the front.

See more photos over on Sarah's blog here!

The Crystal Palace Children's Book Festival
The Crystal Palace Children's Book Festival is happening this Saturday 23 October 2010! The festival's creator and organiser, Alex Milway, says:
"The festival is a little different to the norm, as it takes place over one day, and is run more like a music festival. All events are free, and we actively encourage visitors to hang around and meet and listen to new authors in the line-up. You never know what you might see, or what might inspire the next JK Rowling!
We also like children to get involved in the creative side of books. Alongside workshops and events, the festival is also venturing out into schools and running workshops with hundreds of children. This year we’re creating a Monster Book, which will be available on the day of the festival.
This is the festival’s second year, and all of the excellent, talented writers and illustrators are giving their time for free. So make sure you come along and meet them all!"
A number of DFC contributors will be at the festival, including the Etherington brothers, Gary Northfield and Sarah McIntyre, and there is a great mix of fun workshops and book events - something for everyone! Hope to see you there.

festival comics gossip
Neill Cameron and I (Sarah McIntyre) had a great time this weekend in Oxford at Caption comics festival, and we managed to snag a preview copy each of Mo-Bot High and Vern and Lettuce... score! And I finally found out what the inside of a Mo-Bot looks like. I swear, Neill is a total mad scientists when it comes to his robots, he's thought of EVERYTHING. I read his book on the train ride home and was in designer robot bliss.
